Twenty-first Century Tiger
Tiger, tiger burning out,
total population drought.
What immoral hand and eye
framed you to be lost in time?
In what desperate quest for food
did a huntsman fell your woods,
what wild demon dare dethrone
the largest feline ever known?
What beast came to slash and burn
the forests blazing with your fur,
What twisted devil saw your eyes
and thought palm oil a better prize?
If only evil could be blamed
for the tiger being tamed,
instead of the grim reality
you lost your habitat to groceries.
Will your creator hold us accountable
for your absence in the genetic pool,
or can your fearful symmetry
return with restored forestry?
Tiger, tiger fading fast,
on the most endangered list.
That immoral hand and eye
framing you to be lost in time
is mine,
but I promise I will try to buy
products that don’t cost you your life,
so tiger, tiger can burn bright
in the forest of the night.
