S.O.S. (Save Our Species)

Love is not all we need, but it helps.

Humanity has some huge threats to overcome if we are to survive this next century. Fortunately, there are signs things are improving, just as there are signs that things are getting worse. One of the bitter realities we all must face is that there are over 8 billion of us on the planet and we are draining our supply of freshwater much faster than it can be renewed. This is going to cause our agriculture to fail and billions of us will starve. This terrible fate can be avoided, but we are going to have to turn things around now.

The solution to this mess is surprisingly simple. It involves us as individuals coming to the understanding that we will not live forever, but we share a deep bond with every other person on the planet since we are created from 99.9% of the same genetic material. And we all hold value to this world; the tallest to the smallest of us and the darkest to the lightest of us. Our species, like all species, benefits from genetic diversity. So if we are going to survive, we must see ourselves in one another and do away with vocabulary that seeks to set us apart.

We need to come together, and we already are in the most profound way possible. Our birth rate is dropping and we must come to understand this as a positive thing. Sadly, there are some people claiming that…
