Let’s All Be More Like George Washington Carver

I am an avid supporter of organic farming and George Washington Carver is my hero. Not only did he invent 300 + peanut products, including the chocolate covered peanut, but he saved America’s farmlands by discovering how crops such as peanuts, soybeans, and other legumes, have large amounts of rhizobium bacteria in their roots which are able to fix atmospheric nitrogen into solid compounds that enrich soil quality. He could have patented his methods and made millions, but George Washington Carver was a deeply religious man who prioritized helping others over personal gains. He made pamphlets that he freely distributed, teaching others how to improve their farm yields by planting a variety of crops and including recipes for healthy meals. He was a genius who believed in service, and a man of science who believed God spoke to us through nature.

Native Americans admired the individuals who gave back to the tribe, and they would have honored George Washington Carver. Current American society needs to do the same if we want to survive as a species. Admiring individuals who accumulate ludicrous amounts of wealth for themselves weakens our society. Greed is a character flaw, not an accomplishment, so worshiping the greedy is as bad for them as it is for us. Greed stems from fear of not having enough to survive, but we are a…
