Concrete Corruption

Don’t develop this,

please leave it as it is.

Keep the trees of White Pond drive

alive

absorbing water preventing floods,

and holding back the mud,

the niche they serve is worth

all the money in the world.

In Spring the frogs sing a joyful offering,

before dining on insects that bite or sting.

Bobcats and coyote cut cross,

silently stepping on the moss,

and I pray it’s not all lost

to a person’s money lust.

Men who build just so their name

will stay known beyond their grave.

These construction companies

can’t really build on wetland peat,

but developing marginal lands is cheap,

and fills some sort of fictitious need,

that is until it sinks into the swamp,

and no one comes to clean it up.

It takes too much money to restore,

so they’ll look to tear down more.

They’ll find another White Pond to build on,

until the wilderness is no longer around.
